Ruining Pools

Does anyone else think it is a shame that so many commercial fishery owners are turning to the cheap option of filling so many pools with carp? Surely many people would prefer to catch a range of species such as bream, roach, rudd and perch rather than just the carp and mirror carp. What are your veiws ?

Thanks to TV and the press Carp are the only specimen fish some folk know about as because they are relatively easy to grow on to bigger and bigger size then they are cheap for the owners you buy them in at 6oz and they grow to 6-7lb within the first year and carry on growing a few pounds each year sometimes they can put on up to 10lb a year

the problem is too many "anglers" only fish for carp and some of them think that carp HAVEto weigh in over 30lb to be carp

The fisheries are responding to those narrow minded people

Totally agree with you MC....there are far to many people these days that think that only one fish is worth bothering with''carp''the venue owners see the pound sign and they stock nothing but carp afterwards that's called business in there eyes.

give me a good lake anyday that houses all kinds and i would much rather catch a two pound Roach than a carp that you can catch from most waters these days, very little knowledge is needed to catch carp after all most use bolt rigs so you don't even have to strike and alarms so all the work is done for you,not that i am saying there is no skill involved because there is but it just looks so easy on these over stocked venues and i think that a lot of new comers in to our sport like the easy option.

im in complete agreement here.
i have receantly taken up carp fishing and while i do enjoy it
i find it much more relaxing and enjoyable to be sat on a river bank or canal
targeting a wide variety of species.

personally if i fancy a long lazy days fishing il go after carp
so i can sit back and watch the surrondings as much as the rods.
but if i want to work for my catch il go either to a river or the local canal.

On overstocked ponds it's easy as there is so much competition for food the Carp grab every bait

the places I prefer are low volume stocked lakes where catching a high 20 can take a week not an hour

Roll on July when that's what I'll be doing in France at Twin Lakes the largest KNOWN fish in the two lakes is only 35lb ish but boy are they exciting to catch usually off the top so bite alarms are useless as you don't use floats there if you do it = no fish
