Am guna be fishing 2 smallish ponds, the must have about 20 pegs on each on pond, there is carp in there up to 15lb, i know that this pole isnt guna take fish that big, i normaly fish the bigger lake with my 2 carp rods and bite alarms but am startin to see more an more people fishing the pole, it looks like it could be fun, i ended up getting a 7.6m milo spinder pole of ebay from reel-deal-tackle, it was only £30 with the P&P BARGIN!

Thanks for your help guys.

This pole should be fine to start with,it has a good reputation so no problems.

Margin poles like this are strong and you can catch anything up to 20lb plus on them but one thing you must have is a good selection of top kits with the right elastics in them,it is not easy to say what you should have because there are so many factors to take in to consideration like the venue, size of fish ect ect....but i would have three top kits made, one with light elastic 5/8 rating this is for the smaller fish of around the 4lb or so mark then a medium rating elastic of 10/15 this should cater for most fish you would encounter up to high double and the last top kit would be a power top with a rating of 20 plus this is the bully stuff and i have landed carp of over 20lb on these but you must know the venue and cater for the big ones.

Line for the big fish i would not go lighter than a 6lb brake and i know many disagree with this but i would fish it straight through no hook lengths so no weak points....if the venue has only fish of 10lb or so then the medium top kit is your choice with 6lb main line to 4lb hook length and if you target the small/lighter fish then the light top kit is the choice with 4/3lb main line to 2lb hooklength, remember to fish as light as you can get away with, the bait you choose will determine you float size simple the bigger the bait the bigger the float size but only use a small number of shots on the line and these are bulked together at about mid depth with maybe one small number 8 near the hook to help set the hook length.

The art of pole fishing is keeping it still so you get the best possible presentation,on windy days give you self a good three feet of line between pole tip and float and even more if it is really windy but if it is calm then a short line will suffice of around 18 inches from pole tip to float this means you can connect more quickly with the take but it also means there a chance of dumping the fish off the hook as well, practice makes perfect in this game.

So in a nutshell the pole is fine, keep it simple, know your venue and cater for the biggest fish and you will not be far wrong.......good luck.

LUKET,sorry i can not help on this one but i hope your not going River fishing just yet.....close season, unless you in to game fishing that is in which case a fly rod would be a good choice.....as for Carp/Barbel then i would think any good carp rod would do the trick but i am not into River fishing so not really good on the subject,sorry......good luck.
