on my local pond, the 2-3lb tench i had out on saturday where on soft hook 5mm pellets and sweetcorn.

i lay'd plenty of 3mm pellets, sweetcorn and lunchen meat in a margin.... had carp, tench, rudd in feed for a good few hours.

i would fish lob worms / corn / meat on the hook , float fished deep over lilly pads and i would loose feed hemp , tares, corn and maggots (posibly casters) lilttle and often. using small items in your loose feed means the fish have to root around for there meal and will be more inclined to your larger hookbaits. this is very much a summer method as in the winter fish look to conserve there energy and wont want to expel alot of energy to get there food so large hookbaits and very little loose feed in the winter. once you see little bubbles around your float you know the tench are there

I'm absolutely gagging to catch a tench this year, having only ever caught one in my course fishing experience (2 years)

i landed it on sweetcorn, which seems a common treat. Is this because they mostly feed on the bottom and the bright yellow corn is easy to see ?

more to do with the name SWEET corn they leech a flavour trail which the Tench being quite short sighted follow to your feed pile and hookbait
