Lay a good bed of free offerings like sweetcorn, caster, pellets and Hemp or even chopped worm although this would attract Perch.
Use a swim feeder or get you bait out quick by using a spod but keep the feed going in,you will be surprised at how a good bed of bait can be hoovered up in less than no time, try a little fake corn or caster on the hook but remember to keep your rig anchored to the bottom don't let it rise to far off it,a large shot would do the trick as near to the hook as you dare or use rig putty again this is a good thing to use if you would like to hold bottom using fake bait.
remember it is your carpet of bait that is the attraction here your hook bait is just in the middle waiting to be hoovered up it should work now the waters are warming up and the Tench are on the feed in pre spawn mode, good luck.

caught my tench last night.

local canal, just sprayed a few maggots out and put 3 of them on my size 16 hook. 2 pound hook line. fishing near a large overhanging tree, reeds, and also i knew there were some large snaggy branches on the bottom, perfect tench hideouts.

started just getting the usual canal bream and perch and then woomf something took my bait off the bottom really hard. At first I thought I'd managed to hook the local mirror carp that fed here but I was doubtful as it didn't feel that big - just a heck of a fighter.

when i saw it flapping hard on the surface of the water my jaw dropped, a gorgeous two pound tench. Absoloutely chuffed to bits when i got it in the net.

At this time of year it's unusual as everyone tends to feed Sweetcorn by the bucket load and /Tench get prepossessed with it's taste and won't touch anything else

But on lakes that don't see much sweetcorn then they will go for big bunches of maggots
