The only thing u will find with just using groundbait is the fish will come and go off the feed and u will have 3 or 4 fish and then it will go really slow. this is because the fish r not competing 4 the bait. They will do this because there needs to be something more in the groundbait, the best thing 4 this is chopped worm and caster. dont be shy with the worms the smell will drive them mad. try using 1/2 a dendra worm held on by 2 dead maggots this is how i fish 4 my bream and i have had some really good bags up to 150lb in the uk.

Groundbait on a stillwater

For ya larger waters try using a fishmeal or pellet based groundbait

a big mistake alot of people make is JUST using groundbait. the groundbait crum itself is no good on its own. by not adding free offerings into the mix you are wasting your money. be sure to add some pellets, corn, meat ect ect. maggots aren't brilliant as they tend to break up the balls off groundbait do to them wriggling about if you want to loose feed maggots in the open end feeder, use the groundbait as a plug at each end with the maggots and other free offerings in the middle

If u do wish to feed maggots put them in hot water and a sieve this will kill them. They will then no longer break the groundbait.

Also if you chill them down far enough then they so into a torpid state then they don't wriggle so much

my mate has a trick of rolling the maggots around in his hand, until they're stunned enough.

bream are greedy though, i use shed loads of loose feed rather than groundbait to keep them in my swim.

I tend to use a light ground bait such as the VDE Bream, with some brown crumb and sometimes some brasem. I tend to find the lighter groundbait kept the smaller fish off the feed (they are more susceptible to predators over the lighter groundbait). Pack it with corn, caster, a few squatts and maybe a few pellets. As above, chopped worm is a good addition if you can get hold of enough.
