Re: question for leger fishers

Hi JP

A leger rod should have an all through action
whilst a float rod only flexes towards the tip

This is why you can strike at a float faster than a leger
you probably could use a normal foat but a ledger float would work

Re: question for leger fishers

Cheers. I know that stick float rods are supposed be soft on the tips to detect bites as well as having a powerfull body, and waggler rods reletively the same. However would it be a big problem if i was to use a leger rod for either of these or would the through action just not be enough to strike propaly?

Re: question for leger fishers

Hi JP, i am 16 years of age and been fishing with basic fishing tackle for 2 years. 1 light quiver tip rod (with 2 different tips) has caught me a 14lb pike on a float, a 2lb perch on a float and plenty good carp and tench on both feeder and on the float. So although it may be a good idea to have a float rod for float fishing and a ledger/feeder rod for feeder fishing the fish dont know what rod you have (they arnt going to not pick up your bait because you are ledgering on a float rod), it is all down to personal preferance.

Re: question for leger fishers

fair point! since the post i have used my feeder rod as a float rod and it has been fine so long as i strike like a feeder rig as the through action is very present. the reasons for my asking are that my float rod snapped a while back i havn't got a new one yet. this will change however as i intend to forth with buy a small float rod for quick whip outs and use on canals. do you have any recomendations on rods for this use.

Re: question for leger fishers

ok what difference does it make when you use a float rod for ledger/feeder fishing?
I have one rod, and it's a 10ft float rod, and I use it for feeder/ledger fishing all the time. Does it make much difference? would I be more successful on a feeder rod????

Re: question for leger fishers

yes because you can see the bites better, the tip doesnt always swing all the way round, even with big carp.
