Hi Martin, i've been having a think about this recently too, i'd love to turn a passion for fishing into a living one day.

Sadly I think there are probably relitivley few people who make good money from fishing. I did some work experience in a tackle shop a few years back and the owner told me the only way to get a million pounds from selling tackle was to start with five million pounds and lose it. Likewise with fishery management, i think you have to look at it as a lifestyle job rather than a way to get rich. It's certainly possible to be a fishing guide, but to attract enough customers you'll need to build a good reputation (probably before you even start guiding).

That's not to say money can't be made from fishing, and i'm sure there are plenty of examples of people who do make a good living. Other ways of making money from fishing could be writing or photography for magazines, working for the Environment Agency or working within a tackle company, there's also DVD's (making of, not just staring in), books and inventing items of tackle.

I think tht's a good idea, carping on. You could own a bait or tackle shop. Even a boat charter if you want!
