carp/pole set ups

Hi lads

new member, nice site here

i have not coarse fished properly for the last 8-10 years, but last week had the week off and had a days fishing at a local pond.

i picked a likely peg with over hanging trees to the right and set up a pole rig with 3lb main line and a 2lb hook legth (16 hook)
fed pelltets and fished jellets on the hook.

had a good session with 8 carp to 7.5lb.
but the prob was i was smashed up about 9 times by fish that i just couldnt stop, even when i upped my elastic to a 16.
i put this down to my set up not been balanced correctly

my question is
what is a balanced set up for pole carp fishing for fish up to 10lb?
lines, hooks, elastics etc

thanx in advance

FG

not the best at carp on the pole but saw someone with a 9.5lb carp with about 6 metres of black hydroelastic out and he had 12 lb mainline fo his rig ( was a low diameter make )

Well good luck with it! Not long now! I'm sure you already know this but:
Cod Seasons: Mainly between Jaunuary - May. Sometimes even more between September - December. Well - so - it's round about now!
So - sea fishing - what are your personnal favorite baits, tackle, locations etc.?

Yeah - i agree - it's pretty much all summer. Down here in Cornwall the best month is also December and the longest period for cod is between January and May.

fizzgog, when i use's a 16's elastic i always use ultima power match line, 0.18 which is about 7.5lb if its a snaggy swim, other wise i have my elastic set soft and fish the 0.16 ultima power match line which is about 6.6lb, there is no need for 12lb line on any commercial when fishing the pole or rod, is you do a search there a rough guide on elastic and line strength, if your using 12lb line you need your elastic to be a 22's to 24's? and a very strong margin pole to handle that kind of elastic, the biggest elastic i use is a 16's unless i am at rolfs then its an 18's

have just put up a guide for you all on this topic
