I fish a black hydro in open water 5lb12oz power line to a 4lb12oz power line bottom. This has seen me fish to 15lb after a bit of a fight but really good fun. Fishing snags, trees or really hard hiting fish i use red hydro 8lb clarke match main and a 6lb bottom this line is really good lots of stretch but really strong. This covers most of my carp fishing i do hope this was some help and good luck
p.s if u get chance give paste fishing a go on the pole befor the weather gets to cold thats a lot of fun tights lines

Paste is really easy to make and even easier to fish. You need some ground expander pellet ground carp powder and some fish meal, add an even amount of expander and carp powder then a small amount of fish meal. You will need to experiment with the mix till u get something that u r happy with dont go over the top with the fish meal. mix with water till u get a mix that fees like thick wall paper paste then add a little more carp powder just so u can make it in to a ball. u want it so the hook will pull through it when u hit a bite, the best hooks r drenan hu, they are perfect 4 this. i use a carpa paste 4x14, the line goes thruogh the body the last piece of float rubber wants to be longer so u get 1/4 of a inch hanging off the end of the bottom of the stem, no shot fish a 5lb 14oz power line staight through to a size 12 hu hook. Plum up and find the right death till the brissel is the full length out of the water then use the paste as the weight. u might need to play with the death a little to get it right u will no, when the paste comes off, the float will rise in the water. To get the paste out put a small pole pot on and shape the paste round the hook then drop into the pot, ship out, then tip in. Hope u have some fish on this. i fish this all the time and have not found a better rig yet, good luck tight lines.
