Just thought id say hello and introduce myself as im new to the site.

Ive been thinking about and promising to take up course fishing for a while and now find myself with the perfect opportunity to start. I live in Pontefract, West Yorks, and cant believe how many ponds, bits of river & canals are in a short driving distance.

I used to sea fish every now & then but apart from the odd deep sea trip on holidays ive not been for years. As for course fishing, I will be starting from scratch. Ive read other threads from novice's and visited links etc & have found what I understood helpful.

Yesterday I visited 2 local angling shops, one guy spoke to me for a good 45mins going through different types of course fishing, the equipment, day tickets, season tickets etc etc and told me to start off light float fishing and once I get used to that then carp fishing or using a pole (i think). However, the other guy told me to wait till next april for better weather and a full year on the rod licence. I can bear the weather & really want to get started but is waiting the best thing to do. Also any other advice for learner would be appreciated

Many thanks

Andy

andy you can just buy day licences for the time being if you wish, there about £3 i think, or if your planning on doing alot of winter fishing just get a full licence, and it will only last till march the 31st mind so dont forget,

hi mate welcome to the site im new too only joined yesterday its a good site to pick up some usefull tips
my advice would be the just get the year because that way you will be saving yourself a trip to the post office(sooooooo boring) everytime you want to go fishing. also i agree with the guy from the shop you should start with a light float fishing set up just to get used to fishing again and aim to cach the smaller fish for a while. then maybe after new year when you hve got back into maybe buy some new tackle and go for the bigger fish

some people might like an early morning walk to the post office

the post office is down the road from me and i like walking up in the morning when its foggy with my dog and i like it

coz fresh air is good!

but get a year one

and some might not go fishing that much so they get a day one!
