How do I keep Luncheon Meat on the hook???

Hi Guys and Girls,

I have found a lake where luncheon meat works and absolute treat but I have real trouble keeping the bloody stuff on my hook

And advicce would be greatly recieved....

Hi alan welcome to the site. The best way I find is either use a hair rig and some bait stops.. or the poor mans way and use a peice of grass.

All you need to do is cube the meat, push the hook through, turn the hook when its through, then put the blade of grass between the hook and meat and then gently pull the line so the hook goes into the meat. The blade of grass should stop it from pulling thorough.

There's a good cheat and a way of adding extra flavour and that is to FAST fry some cubes in curry powder flavoured oil

frying fast means it gets a skin the curry powder gives it some zing and some fish like it spicy

try using a bait screw, ether the plastic korum ones or the coil ones made by middy i think, the middy ones come in pre ties packs of 10 for a couple of quid.

Dinsmore's have brought out a range of hooks fo things liek this, corn, paste, MEAT. look out for, i dunno whats special about it, it had some screw in the place of a hair rig, but there u go!

THAT's the special bit the screw it allows you to fix the meat a little more securely

there are these things i gt with some hooks-to-nylon there like a rubbery stick with a little hole one end and a blunt flat end on the other so you thread the meat on then hook it through the little eye.
im sure you could buy them somewhere
