Pole Fishing Help!

Hi guys i have just got a now tip section for my shimano beastmaster 850 margin pole. (the other tip section broke so i rang shimano and ordered a new one) My old tip section got elasticed by my local fishing tackle with what i thought was 20 elastic. I got the pole a couple of years ago as its the old beastmaster (I know they have brought a new one out) and my fishing tackle shop wont elastic it again for me so now its a home job. I went out today and got some Polemaster Hollow Core Carp Bungee in pink (14 to 16 rating). When i got home i found out that it is thicker then my 20 elastic in my old section! Have i brought the wrong elastic and should i take it back tomorrow? If yes what elastic would you get for the margin pole? I am not sure what to do now and would like some help please. Also do i really have to cut my pole down cause i wouldnt like doing this incase i get it wrong and mess my pole up.

the best thing to do is just take off the tip section and elasticate the 2nd and 3rd section, the pole will be alot stiffer so if needed you could give the pole abit of stick if you fish a snaggy swim, you will find that hollow elastics as the drennan one you have are thicker than solid ones, to be honist i would have taken the top secton off then fit it with 20's solid. the drennan elastic is very good for that kind of work, depending on what size of fish you are catching. if you have to cut it back just do it a bit at a time till the elastic fits in the end of the pole and will not get stuck. and dont forget to sand paper the end of the pole then it wont damage the elastic

you could just but a bullnose on the end,

but still sand it,

this way the elastic will last longer.
