i hooked a duckling last summer, my bait wasn't even in the water I was about to cast out and dangling my line in mid air. This little duckling just jumped up and took my hook. The mother duck went mental, as you could imagine.
Luckily it was disgauged quickly and no harm came, maybe a bit of distress (for all of us!) |

Ducks are a good alarm clock if you are on a river
Also an great way to annoy people if they are stick loads of bread out at around 11pm If you are aiming to wake some noisy neighbours wait until they are asleep before you put it on the roof of their boat One of my sons used to do this when we were on the Broads so he could get up early to catch fish before the boat traffic started And a group of hard drinking card playing insomniac Germans got it done to them one night but we had to wait until 4am to put the bread out they were that late and noisy no-one got much sleep AND As for dis-gorging -- ducks are easier than Swans let me tell you
