Maggot, Castor and worm
Hemp, micro pellets as feed

oopps
hit the send button too early

I went Yesterday and had to break the ice to start fishing and remember in Canada and Norway they fish through the ice to catch
So as Long as you are prepared for the cold and dressed correctly you should have no problems

I use popped up pineapple boilies for winter fishing normaly.

Im off out this sunday to catch a few hopefully The bait i'm going to be using is NASH 15mm banana boilies with SENSAS (Grab N go) pineapple boilies 10mm Popups along with a pineapple glug. Bait presentation will be snowman style on a Kryston Snakeskin 20lb rig, hooked onto 18lb esp mono mainline with a safety bolt rig holding a 4 ounce korda grippa lead.

Bit of a combination but works well for me in winter months. Oh by the way the total length off the rig from swivel connection to top of boilies is only 3 inches maximum. As for fishing in deeper water that depends on the fish. Last week i took a 10lb carp from the bottom of the water about 4 foot deep. There were others floater fishing the carp that were up on the surface.

I have no luck in fishing the local canal in winter

I went this weekend and I too had to deal with icey surfaces, and not even a bite could I muster. Over the winter I think I've had like one roach and one gudgeon out of there. That's why I stick to the rivers mostly.
