A beautiful day for learning & learnt alot
hello guys,
breadcrumb and maggot ground bait pre done. set up at the lake...switched the mobile off (the wife will have to use her crystal ball) my plan was to bait one area with the crumb and maggot, one other a good distance apart crumb and sweetcorn. no sooner i casted in the 1st area with maggot hook i hit a perch, then another, then another. This is the 1st time i had this in my few times at this lake. i started to get frustrated with the new 2lb main line my friend got me yesterday, it seemed springy and when i casted there seemed a lot of the line loose as if there is no tension along the rod, could this be my casting technique? problem with my float shot set up? i soon went back to my little 10ft rod and reel i first used. sweetcorn used on the second area, predominantly Roach and even dangling the line only metres away the perch were fun to watchdarting at the bait. A fatal mistake after a couple of hours..switch on the mobile to see what the lads have cought at the other lake..and yes you've guessed it the wife needed to go shopping overall, i learnt about Roach and perch, their feeding, groundbait and practiced more my casting and landing a fish. a short day ended with 12 Roach and 10 Perch and a pushing a shopping trolley around a super market to look forward to NEVERMIND always tomorrow morning to look forward to. thank you for taking the time to read this Brian |

Brian the first answer is to the wife problem Remember guys I've had TWO wives so can reguard myself as an expert especially as I work with women as I'm a NURSE (a REAL one and have been for 35 years) The answer is simple tell her what time you are going out and tell her what time you are returning (it's called negotiation) and leave your phone on but on silent / vibrate so as not to disturb others chat to her from time to time but ALWAYS have to go as you've got a fish on OK Mainline Personally at your stage of learning how to fish a stiff 2lb line is not really what I'd use Even now (and I've been fishing for 25 years) the lowest line strength I'd use for mainline is 4lb and I look for something fairly limp so I can tension it I EXPECT nylon to stretch there is no way it is not going to but you will find the more you pay the less it stretches I have got used to how Maxima stretches and tend to stick to that brand and it is fairly economical especially when you consider that you will change it every year and i have to buy enough to fill 2 spools of 4lb 2 spools of 6lb 4 spools of 8lb 4 spools of 12lb So check out a slightly stronger mainline

hello grey,
cheers for the post, laughed at the wife part, even though i was only gone just over 2 hours my wife said" What are you doing back thought you'd be away for ages yet" lol can't win instead of starting a new thread here is my progress today. what a great day i had. i only went out for just ova 2 hours to use that Sensas magic for the first time and to practice my float set up. i used my smaller 10' rod with the 2lb line close in with magic , plenty of fish. i used a 12' match rod with 4lb line a what i think was a heavier float than usual (got a mix off Ebay but don't know there names) this time i used heavier shot as described in the sticky on floats button'd. my hooklength i got off my friend but only about 15cm's long with 16 barbless. my first cast was a dream no slack line and it went a fare distance,i enjoyed tightening the line(don't know what thats called) til the line was buried and i had the right ammount of line to strike, at last not one lost fish. the ironic thing is the smaller rod cloase in got the majority of the perch, i was dangling just the hooklength in at one point and watching the buggers dart at the maggot. now the part when you all wet yourselves laughing sun bleaching down and i had a brain fart, lets see if i can do a demon cast with the 12' rod...whoooooooshhhhhhh what a distance the float went, but for a second i thought my rod was shorter!!! only to see the end section about 10 ft away in the water pleased no one was watching. so i will look at that in a mo after my tea. the pics of the floats are a great help, i have heard of wagglers so i might have a search on ebay etc. is there a sticky or post on the different weights or is it adjust the shot to suit. my m8's are Carp fishing near Norwich this weekend so i will catch up how they got on. at least i had our lake to myself apart from one who was practicing for the match coming up this week.hoping to get time off work to tag on and observe. end result: 26 fish in just over 2 hours 16 Roach and 10 perch. pays to have 2 rods going. thanks again for all your help hoping to use method feeding next time. lata brian |
