Hello there, just got back into the sport after some considerable time off.
found the site and thought I'd get some advice from the people in the know. I've been coarse fishing for a few months and found a fishery near me with a healthy head of carp. Recently caught some carp around the 6-7 pound mark and then a 12 pounder turned up!!!!!!! I can honestly say I'm hooked (excuse the punn). Well i've invested in a carp rod and free spool reel, and now looking for what else to buy to get me on my way. What do I "need" and what would you recommend? As I said I have a rod reel and line. The forums yours for what else....................... ![]() |

What type of fishing you planning on? hardcore carping? fish of around 67 to 12lbs are easy to catch with simple waggler techniques, since you hve only got one rod a pod isnt essential would be cheaper to get a couple of rests, If youve got a stiff action carp rod then yes you will need a bite alarm and swinger. thats the key things. Its whats on the end thats the most important feature, not chairs or barrows.

Well i've got ready made rigs and weights etc and my birthday coming so think i'll see if the wife can stretch to a rod pod etc.
I'm only getting into it so dont think i'm going to be camouflaged up to my eyeballs waiting for a 40 pounder but where I fish there's plenty around the 15 to 25 range. I've got a shimano alivio rod 12 ft - 2.5lb tc and an okuma interceptor baitrunner reel. anything further anyone can recommend for the very ethusiastic and eager to learn begginer would be appreciated. ![]() |

I have one Carp Rod (cost me £20) I also use a 17 foot waggler rod and a 13' waggler rod both are for Carp fishing (and if you want to see what I've caught the pics are here Madcaravanner/fishing - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting ) I do have a pod (19€95c in France) but I still sit on my Shakespeare box as I am looking on eBay for a comfortable chair still my Pb of 20lb for Common and 27lb5oz for Mirror aren't bad for a beginner
