back leads

Hello Can anyone tell me about back leads for river carp fishing? How big a lead do you use and can you use any lead or do you have to buy special leads for this?
Any advise gratefully received. Thanks.

Re: back leads

Thanks for the advice. I've been fishing at Laleham(non-tidal) and had a bash at Ham (tidal). Only been out 3 times, no carp as yet. But I'm told there are a lot of carp in the Thames so I'm determined to catch one! Do they hang about in the flow or would targetting a slack be better?
Thanks

Re: back leads

Thanks
You get a lot of gravel, and slack water, next to the islands don't you. Is that a good area to fish? Will persevere.
Tight lines!
