Carp Rod's.

Hi All, I am new to this forum, I used to go coarse/Carp fishing years ago I only ever used a 13ft match rod and a feeder rod, now I want to take up Carp fishing and I am buying a couple of 2.75 test curve 12ft carp rods, what I want to know is can I use these rod's for fishing a float as well as ledgering, (Sorry for what must seem a daft question).

Thanks.

Steve.

No question is daft

I take it you mean use it for Carp floats -- controllers/wagglers

and the answer is yes they will allow you the extra confidence when you hook a decent fish to exercise the right control over the fish rather than risk snapping a match rod

Thanks for the reply Gary, As I said it has been a quite a few years since I last went coarse/Carp fishing I have been Fly fishing for a long time and I am not up to date with all the gear that you can get now, i used to use the top off a washing up bottle as a bite indicator (it did work though) but now I want to get some new gear who knows I might even get a pod set as well complete with the monkey climbers and drop off indicators, there are a few complete outfit's available on that auction site I might look at so I will be asking quite a few question's.

Thanks.

Steve.

hi guys hope this helps yes you can use your rods as you want with floats instead of leads but bear in mind these rods are designed to cast 1 ounce per 1 pound test curve so ie 2.75 test curve rods you have have an optimum cast weight of 2.75 ounces which is a bloody heavy float lol
not to say you cant use them just be aware that casting distance will be limited as not as much give in high test curve rods
i would source a good shorter stalking rod or maybe find a good 2 pound tc rod which is more flexible

hope this helps and makes sense

Take a look at some big Carp Floats I've got bigger than that and even Pole floats at 9g you would be surprised how well Carp Rods cast light weights
try chucking a 1/4oz weight on 8lb test line
I can get over 100 metres
