A spod rod is a heavy rod that can handle the weight of a spod that can weigh over a pound in weight when fully loaded up so a normal carp rod even with a 2.75 tc would not take the casting at any great length....that's why there are spod rods and carp rods....they are for that very purpose, spodding out lots of feed in bulk.
One thing to remember when using a spod you must use a target float , you dont have to but the whole purpose of using a spod is to get your feed out in bulk and in a tight area, this means you need not just three or four rods but five(depending on how many you use to fish with),one marker rod with float, one spod rod with spod and the others are your hook/bait rods.
Get your marker in the area you want to fish then with a heavy lead on your spod rod line(not your spod)cast at your target float, the aim is to get your lead to land near the float,it might take several goes but you will get there in the end...when happy set your line clip on your reel,in other words put your line in the line clip this will give you the correct distance every time, aim your rod at the marker float and cast out you will find you will need a bit of strength to get the distance because of the weight of the loaded spod but once it is flying out there it will hit the target area with no problems, leave your marker float out dont reel in untill you are leaving other wise you will not be able to find the range again....thats the way you use a spod rod and the reason why it is vital to use the right gear for the right job,it is not cheap but if you want the best chances then that is what to do....tight lines
