Re: looking for support

Hi Brian,

I think the concept of a fishing club is great; it is well known that fishing is a good way to relax, de-stress and whilst communicating with nature there is plenty of opportunity for quiet reflection and even to learn a little more about ourselves - ideal for recovering addicts.

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to help financially, but I shall mill over your post for a few days and see what ideas I can come up with. Have you considered looking into sponsorship/funding? Maybe putting a kind of business plan together and outlining your ideas and then approaching an organisation such as the Princes Trust (depending on the likely ages of potential members), or applying for a Lottery grant. You may need to be specific as to whether this is a locally-based club or a national one, also whether the club is a business or a non-profitable organisation; the latter and I'd look into the Charities Commissionand see what criteria you'd need to meet to register for charitable status.

You don't state whether the e-mails you have been sending were to individuals or to companies - if you haven't already, it might be worth asking publishers of fishing mags and books - (maybe you could do a deal giving them interviews, pictures or something a year down the line and sing their praises for having helped establish the club!) Local retailers, local newspaper groups and radio stations.

I have a few fishing friends and will mention this to them - if I get any joy with offers I shall contact you by e-mail.

*Raising my glass to you* getting off drugs is not an easy thing to do and the social stigma can be hard to overcome, well done for cracking that particular tough nut and you deserve full credit for not only making changes to your own life, but also for your efforts to assist others.

Good luck and best wishes, fishingbird
