hi luke
if its the smaller carp your after like 1-15 lbs then i would suggest using a carp feeder rod the real doesnt really matter as long as its a god one with about 6-8lb line on it. then use a cage feeder with a good groundbait (ask at your local shop they will probably know the lake your fishing) then on your hook i woul personally use something like pellets, lunchenmeat or um sweetcorn or something (again ask your local shop for a good suggestion for the lake). then all you want to do is cast int a good position then just keep feedin in lose feed and grounbait till you get a bite.
another way (this is more of a summer method but il say it anyway) is to get a carp fishing rod same thing aplies for real and line and then set up a small float as an indicator. then about 3 foot away from the float put on a hair rig hook or a normal hook and get hold of some tiny elastic bands. then using either the hair rig or the elastic bands put on a floating trout pellet or dog biscuit then all yo neeed to do is ge the ish feeding on the top andflick it onto there nose.
some of the methods i use again ask at your local shop they will probably know better ways to fish this certain lake but there you go anyway

ask at your local fishery or your local tackle shop because its easier when someone tells you what to do instead of reading it because they can help you!

i have never really done course fishing i fly fish and when i started 2 years ago i went to the local tackle shop and they gave me all the info!

its like riding a bike you never forget

hi lukeb, this is my 1st ever post on a forum site ever...

lets get to the point...when i started out fishing many years ago i used a smiple huck on the end of the line with a bome atached to the line and a shot to hold it in place...but i found that i didnt chatch very oftern.

now i use hair rigs which i find very efected. As the bate is not on the huck any more its hanging just below.

sinch i have been using hair rigs it makes life alot easer when trying to catch carp and you can use hair rigs to fish most fish..

the bate that i like to use for all my carp fishing is:

bread, cheese, prawns, meat, sweetcorn, catfood but it can get messy.

i hope that also helps, and like mcgowan_luke said all fishing shops will be willing to help.

p.s. home made hair rigs are all ways better then buying them from the shop.
