newbie in bracknell, berks

hi guys, brilliant site you have got here, packed full of helpful information.

my story is the same as a lot of yours, have been float fishing for 2-3 months now, got all the basic kit. only really caught roach so far, maybe 1.5lb tops, and 2 carp so far. problem is, firstly i dont know any 'good' ponds around here, and also i cant seem to get the carp onto my hooks . as i have already said, im float fishing, usually my hook is around 30cm from my float. seems to work for roach but not for carp. i use groundbait, and bread mainly. does this sound incredebly wrong? im new, so trial and error at the moment.

im on a fairly small budget, as im unemployed due to health reasons, so i cant really afford loads of fancy bait, bite alarms etc. i want to try ledger fishing, but (this is gonna sound stupid) dont know how to tell when i get a bite. with float fishing i just watch the float go under, but with ledgering, how will i know?

sorry for the essay guys, but any advice or answers to my questions would be great. also if anybody is local maybe i could come and join you one day ( in my opinion seeing it is the best way to learn )

Lightbulb try this

if you are fishing under depth you tend to get the surface feeders like roach , if you tried plumbing the depth, youd get more carp who are bottom feeders.

if unsure copy and paste this address Plumbing the depth into your search bar

ok guys thanks for the advice, went to a local lake (south hill park) and caught some carp! the fight was brilliant, even though it was only about 5lb according to the bailiff. in total i caught 4 that day, and 6 the next time i went. 2 were on float with sweet corn, and 4 were ledgering with pva bags with groundbait, sweetcorn, and fishmeal pellets with a pellet hookbait. all 5-10lb, with one 2-3lb.
