The method feeders that I use are free running ones. I fish the hooklink onto the swivel that sits in the feeder then onto my leadcore then onto my main line. The only swivel I have is located at the front of the feeder so if the line breaks then the feeder can safely slide down the line and out of harms way. Another aspect is that the feeder is able to slide backwards out of the way of the carp whilst playing it to the net. Which means the carp will not get any damage from a heavy feeder banging against it as it is fighting you.

From the way you describe the feeder it does not sound safe at all for the carp. If your line breaks its going to be towing that feeder around with it unless the elastic snaps. A swivel at both ends will not let the feeder break free if it gets snagged, which will then lead to the death of the carp.

Normaly method feeders are a kind of bolt rig. If a carp feels the weight of it, it either tries to spit or shake the bait out, if the bait hasnt fully broken down the weight of it plus the feeder should drive the hook home causing the carp to bolt off
