Luncheon Meat
I have used Luncheon Meat for a long time now in my fishing catching most fish on it from TENCH,CARP,BREAM,ROACH,RUDD they all love the stuff.
Luncheon Meat can be coloured and flavoured to your own choice with many Anglers choosing red as there preferred colour but to me it is the Flavour that makes it work. I have tried many different types of flavourings but the one that stands out is GARLIC it really is a potent flavour and Skimmer Bream love the stuff in fact most Bream seem to like it,you can buy ready made Garlic luncheon Meat from supermarkets or from your local bait shop now but if you prefer to keep cost down a little then this is what i do. First buy a cheap tin of Luncheon Meat, cube it to your desired size, remember that the smaller the species you target the smaller the cubes should be, although you can still catch big ones on small baits but not small ones on big baits they will normally turn away from such bait sizes so you have to bear that it mind when preparing the cubes. Once cut to size put the cubes in a plastic bag,one of those resealable food bags are great for this, then you put some Garlic powder in,now don't over do it there is a fine line to getting it just right and going over the top,i use a small tin of Luncheon Meat and add a third of a teaspoonful of garlic powder, once you have done that then give the bag a good shake making sure all the cubes are coated then seal the bad and put in the fridge over night,in the morning you will find the cubes have taken on the flavour of the Garlic and the job is done.

some good advice there mate,
Ive been using garlic for about ten years now to catch chub and barble on both the Severn and the Ribble, what I do is cut my meat up put it in a resealable bag with a clove of garlic and freeze the lot, when it defrosts the meat pulls in the garlic flavor you can refreeze any left over bait but if you choose to do this the meat dose go softer. |

Garlic does work well on hard fished waters but on quite waters I like to use plain. I always hair rig it to get more connections also sometimes mash aload up with bread crumb/or standard gb and fish the lift method over it, works well for carp. Its very good barbel bait, on the rivers around here a big (1 1/2 inch) cube rolled along the bottom over hemp gets good results.

Viking Lord i can put you on a very hard fished water and can 100% guarentee you wont catch on garlic meat. and if you dont beleve me just wait untill the end of may and ask madcaravanner, garlic meat in that water is like poison. to tell you the truth its that much of a tricky venue sometime you strugle to get bites on pinkies.

Yes, you will get alot of variation with how lakes/rivers fish everyone has its own characteristics. I should of said in my experience. Hard fished waters usually require more bait variation as fish become used to some baits. As you say pinkies can be rejected in somewaters yet fluro pinkies catch all day. Strange but the slightest small detail can make the whole difference.
