Surface feeding is hard.
Some Carp bask in the sun and are not neccisarily on feeding. Floating dog biscuits are great ( small sizes), and also pellets, in a pellt ring that you can buy.
Bread is also great but hard to fish with.
Forget the float too, just use basic tackle, and if you really need to a tiny bubble float.
