Winter is the BEST time for pike fishing,you could try a pop up dead bait like a Roach or use Smelt as these are very buoyant.....the best way to make a pop up dead bait is to insert a balsa wood stick in to (via mouth) it needs to be only a couple of inches in length this will give the bait plenty of buoyancy but in deep water it would pay to use Lures or at least have some with you...it might pay to watch a video on pike fishing (plenty on you tube) and watch what baits they use and how to use them....look for Pike fishing in Ireland seeing what is done is much better than listening.....
