Hi Phil
Carp Fishing UK is totally different to the rod in the air type of rest we use for long distance shore casting
Sea fishing we tend to fish at leat two rods both can have 2-3 hook paternoster rigs on uless we are after big Sea Bass
I tend to put one rod out for Flatties and one for Bass/Cod/ whatevers there

this is my lightweight carp set-up I take when using my touring caravan (over yourside I think you would call it a towed or trailer RV) as we are limited to the amount of weight we can carry everything is aluminium /Carbon Fibre but the set-up is the same whether I'm at home or in France 2 1/2lb and 3lb test curve 11 and 12 foot rods with baitrunner reels with drop backs and alarms as well as un-hooking mats and carp safe nets
